Talking can be a one-way process where a parent simply expresses themselves, often scolding their child, without necessarily ensuring their child understands the message or actively engages in the conversation. On the other hand, communication involves a more comprehensive exchange of information, where unders t a n d i n g plays a crucial role. Effective communication requires nonverbal cues, empathy, and the ability to convey and receive messages meaningfully. _______________________ Being aware of the tone of your voice, eye contact, and connecting with compassion teaches your child valuable communication skills and the art of engaging in healthy conversation. Here are some ways to foster healthier communication: 1) Active Listening. Teach children the importance of listening attentively when others are speaking. Encourage them to make eye contact, nod, and ask questions to show their engagement. Focusing on tuning out distractions and specifically giving someone their undivided attention reduces miscommunication and creates positive interactions. 2) Nonverbal Communication.
