SPECIAL PROGRAMS Since military families move approximately every 2 - 4 years, finding a quality school where you're stationed is critical for building a strong academic foundation for children thrust into constant change. Hawaii has programs in place that are specific to military families for making the educational transition easier. SCHOOL TRANSITION CENTERS Hawaii is the temporary or long-term home for some 100,000 military personnel, spouses and children. HIDOE School Transition Centers offer a safe and stable foundation via peer-to-peer mentoring by student ambassadors to support incoming students as they acclimate to their new school community. Transition Centers are rooted at public schools with higher populations of militarydependent students, such as Leilehua High, Mokapu Elementary and Radford High. A+ PROGRAM Rest assured that your children are in good hands both during school and after. Hawaii was the first state to introduce the After-School Plus (A+) Program for kindergarten through grade six children.
